Montenegro's wedding season runs from May to October, but not all months are equal. The one you choose shapes the feel of the entire day more than most couples realise when they first start planning.
June and September are the two peak months, and both are good for different reasons.
June means long days and warm evenings. Daytime temperatures reach 28-30°C, the sea is already warm enough to swim in, and sunset falls around 8pm. Ceremonies typically start at 5pm, with guests arriving from 4pm. The worst of the afternoon heat has passed by then, the light is at its best, and by the time dinner begins, everyone is comfortable.
September runs a little cooler at 25-28°C during the day, but the evenings are the real reason couples choose it. By 8pm it can still be 24°C with no wind, which suits outdoor dining well. Sunset comes around 7pm, so ceremonies usually start at 4pm. Photographers quite like September for the golden hour light, and it tends to produce some of the most memorable shots of the day.
May is worth considering too. Temperatures sit around 20°C, the crowds are smaller, and the sea is already swimmable. For couples who prefer a quieter setting and softer weather, it's an underrated option. Venues also tend to have more availability.
July is the hottest month. Temperatures regularly exceed 30°C and the midday heat is intense. Weddings happen, but there's a reason they're less common. Everything gets pushed later in the day, and guests sitting through a 3pm ceremony in full July sun won't thank you for it. August follows the same pattern. Hotel and apartment prices in both months also tend to rise by around 25-30%, which is worth factoring into the overall budget.
One thing we always plan around is sunset. Ceremonies are typically scheduled two to three hours before the sun goes down, which catches the best light for photographs and keeps the afternoon heat at a distance. In June that means around 5pm. In September, closer to 4pm.
The Adriatic Sea is cooler than most people expect, but the water is warm enough to swim from May onwards. It reaches around 26°C in July and August and stays comfortable through September. For couples planning any water activities or beach moments, that's the window to bear in mind.
If you're wondering about the best time to get married in Montenegro and you're coming from the UK, end of May and early June tend to book up fastest. The UK May half-term falls in that window, which means anyone with school-age children or teachers in the family targets those dates early. They are often taken well over a year in advance.
October is quieter, and weddings do happen there, mostly before the 15th. Early October can be very pleasant, and venues have more availability. After the 15th the weather becomes less predictable, and late September comes with the same caveat. If you're drawn to either, have a covered backup option in place before committing to an outdoor plan.
June and September remain the safest choices. June gives you long evenings and a full summer feel. September gives you cooler nights, softer light, and a quieter pace. Either way, if you have a specific date in mind, start looking earlier than feels necessary. The best venues book up long before most people think to ask.
